About This Lorem Ipsum Generator
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text commonly used in graphic design, web design, and publishing to demonstrate the visual form of a document or layout without relying on meaningful content. It lets designers focus on the design itself rather than the content.
The standard Lorem Ipsum passage has been used since the 1500s, when an unknown printer scrambled a passage from Cicero's 'De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum' to create a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
Using placeholder text during the design process has several advantages: it prevents the audience from being distracted by the content, it gives a realistic impression of how the final text will look, it helps designers test layout and typography options, and it makes it easier to focus on visual design decisions.
A lorem ipsum generator lets you create placeholder text of exactly the length you need —whether measured in words, characters, or paragraphs. This is useful for designers, developers, and anyone creating mockups or templates who needs realistic filler text.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text used in the design, printing, and typesetting industries. It has been the industry's standard dummy text since the 1500s. It lets designers focus on layout and visual design without being distracted by the content.
Where does Lorem Ipsum come from?
Lorem Ipsum comes from a Latin text by Cicero called "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (On the Ends of Good and Evil), written in 45 BC. It was popularized in the 1960s by Letraset sheets and later by desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker.
Is it okay to use Lorem Ipsum on real websites?
Lorem Ipsum is meant for design mockups and development. Before launching a real website, you should always replace placeholder text with actual content. Search engines and visitors expect real, meaningful content on live websites.
Can I choose paragraphs, words, or characters?
Yes. Pick a unit, set the count from 1 to 100, and press Generate. You can turn off the opening "Lorem ipsum" line.
